John and Ali
John and Ali met in Western Australia back in 1990, John went there to sow wheat on a 18000 acre farm near Mukinbudin in the wheat belt, Ali travelled from North Yorkshire to be the cook on a neighbouring farm also sowing wheat.
They returned after their year travelling to Johns family farm in Angus, Scotland and married in 1993, they have two grown up children, one beautiful grandchild and 3 dogs.
Both John and Ali are passionate about farming and country life, spending time with their family, friends and rural community, when they decide to take time out they love to travel and explore new pastures.
John is an avid football supporter while Ali’s passion are her dogs, cycling and of course all things Hemp!

Having worked on many farms over the years and latterly had a career with a leading Scottish precision farming company, Ali learned a great deal about modern farming techniques. When the opportunity arose to become part of a Hemp group joining other farmers interested in growing hemp, she thought “why not, Hemp is on the come back and has so many uses”.
Researching Industrial Hemp became a bit of an obsession and Ali was soon planning her new Hemp Seed business, based on the massive versatility of this plant from improving our health with an Omega-3 rich Hemp seed oil, to improving our soil, to sucking up tons of atmospheric CO2, all with very few inputs and then there is all the many uses that are possible from the stalks! Hemp could play a huge role in Scotland reaching its Net Zero targets when grown at scale.
July 2022, Ali started trading cold pressed extra virgin Hemp seed oil at local farmers markets, a few years later we expanded our range, bought a mill to produce protein powders and started making infusions and dressings to add value and suit a wider audience.
2025 we launched our skin loving all natural Hemp Soap range with Revive, Soothe and Unwind hair and body bars, why stop at food products when we know Hemp is rich in Vitamin E and great for skin!
2026/27 is our time for growth, we are becoming more independent with our processing on farm which will allow us to grow our business and scale up production. Hemp it Up is also partnered with InnovateUK (DOSH) towards some exciting new R&D projects, with an aim of adding more reliable seed varieties to the Home Office growing list while cooking up a storm with Hemp!
