CBD and Hemp explained
There has been much confusion over the years between Hemp and Marijuana, the plants look the same but are very different.
Hemp (Cannabis Sativa) is currently grown in the UK under license for the seeds and/or stalks (fibres), only certified varieties with a very low THC content of 0.3% or less can be grown.
CBD (Cannabidiol) is one of the many active chemical compounds naturally found in Hemp and is non-intoxicating. CBD has well known well being benefits from improving sleep, relieving pain and managing anxiety, it is becoming more and more popular in many products because of this.
THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) on the other hand is intoxicating causing the user to experience a mind altering effect “high”. Marijuana is high in THC typically 5-35% and is low in CBD, this is why it is illegal.
It can be used for medicinal remedies BUT In the UK it is illegal to grow Hemp varieties with a greater THC content than 0.2%, also the Hemp licensing stipulates harvesting of the leaves is prohibited.
