Boost Your Protein Intake the Natural Way with Hemp

Makes 18 – Calories 69, carbs 5.7g, protein 3g, fibre 2.1g, total fat 3.5g – (Omega 3, 6 &9 – 3g, saturated fat 0.5g).

Something sweet and satisfying, made with whole foods!

Ingredients

  • 100g pitted dates. Chopped
  • 40ml boiling water
  • 60g almonds or cashews
  • 40g hemp protein powder (either 40% or 50%)
  • 25g Hemp hearts (you can easily add more if you like)
  • 25g Cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp nut butter (almond, peanut, or cashew)
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds or flaxseeds (optional for extra fibre)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • A pinch of sea salt
  • Coating (optional) – Hemp hearts, Desiccated coconut, chopped nuts or cocoa powder for rolling

Instructions

  1. Blend the nuts and hearts in a food processor until finely ground, becoming a paste.
  2. Add the boiling water to the chopped dates, leave to soak for 5 mins.
  3. Meanwhile add the hemp protein, cacao powder, nut butter, honey/syrup, seeds, vanilla, and sea salt, then add the date mixture and blend until well combined.
  4. Roll the mixture into small bite-sized balls.
  5. If desired, roll each ball in your choice of coating.
  6. Place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  7. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

*Tip*  Freeze, ideal for hiking, cycling, running – can be eaten from frozen!
